Whether we enjoy a nice cup of coffee, eat a delicious piece of chocolate or wear a stylish new shirt, we need to know whether our actions support human rights or violate them. We need to know to which extent we cause damage to the environment, and under which circumstances and where the products we buy are produced. We have to know.

This level of awareness is what Win-Win Textiles is working for. Awareness of the industrial footprint and negative impact is the first step towards systemic change in behaviour. We need likemindedness throughout the supply chain to create full transparency and traceability.

OUR APPROACH

We like to speak about responsibility rather than using the word sustainability, which has unclear connotations. Our company focuses on responsible industrial behaviour by striving to leave as little impact as possible and creating a healthy balance in the way we produce.

COMMITMENT

There are very clear and alarming conclusions in the 2019 CEO Study on Sustainability made by the UN Global Compact in collaboration with Accenture Strategy. No country is currently on track to achieve the 2030 goals, the world is heading towards a 3.2°C temperature rise, and we must halve emissions by 2030 to avoid the worst outcome.

Who has the responsibility to source ethically correct? Is it the consumers who influence the industry via behaviour? Are the brands responsible? The industry? The politicians?

Our philosophy is that whoever has the most knowledge has the biggest responsibility. And the biggest players in the market have a major obligation. We have to lead the way in creating the solutions and educating others.

When we participated in the webinar on the 2019 CEO Study on Sustainability made by the UN Global Compact in collaboration with Accenture Strategy, it was alarming to note that a big part of CEOs responded that lack of trust in business is a major factor influencing the companies’ competitiveness as well as reducing or stalling sustainability efforts.

We do not have a sufficient level of transparency in the supply chains; there is too much focus on narrow financial objectives. Instead, we should collaborate within and across sectors, and also with others than our direct stakeholders, in a common effort to achieve the SDGs and create systemic change. We have to change both brand behaviour, industry behaviour and the behaviour of service companies like ourselves.

We are Win-Win Textiles because we believe in win-win relationships; personal integrity and full transparency ensure trust, which is the basis of any development. Our company uses manufacturers who share our values and where the main decision makers meet us and our customers. Knowing our suppliers in depth can create the collaboration we are looking for. We regularly visit, discuss developments and PD with both 1st, 2nd and 3rd tier suppliers in our supply chain. Our quality assurance includes 1st tier suppliers of all orders as well as their direct and approved subcontractors.

MATERIALS

Win-Win Textiles has been working with organic materials and cotton in naturally grown colours for more than 20 years. However, we have learned that this is not the solution for the future. Huge challenges lie ahead of us: lack of clean drinking water and pollution or exploitation of our soils.

We are producing with recycled cotton and are researching new materials, which can satisfy the same needs at consumer level. We use new methods of reduced consumption of resources, choose other cellulose fibres that have less impact than cotton and work with new bio-based synthetic materials and natural dyes in order to create fully biodegradable products. We work with organic linen, recovered linen, recycled wool, recycled polyester, alpaca wool in the natural hair colours without dyeing and many more interesting concepts.

At Win-Win Textiles, we have achieved a high level of technical knowledge and have a good overview of the social and environmental impact of seals. Our manufacturers hold certifications related to social standards, chemical standards, recycling and organic standards, environmental standards, quality assurance and data protection standards.

We are constantly adding to our wide range of responsible materials and have created a separate showroom, where we present our solutions. TECHNOLOGY

At Win-Win Textiles, we are optimistic regarding technological wonders. A massive development has been witnessed over the past years, and we select partners in our supply chain, who are at the forefront of technological development.

Sustainability efforts can partly be driven by new technologies – and, therefore, Win-Win Textiles allocates considerable resources to staying informed through research within new materials, new methods of dyeing, printing, washing and the creation of new fibres and materials. These efforts often pay off and empower reduced consumption of natural resources and the creation of better materials.

The circular fashion economy is a fantastic vision. We need new technology to really make an impactful development in this direction and boost recycling, direct reuse and upcycling. Closing the loop is a complex ambition, and Win-Win Textiles works with the supply chain to redesign processes and design garments in the first place to optimise recycling.
